DC women beat Gujarat Giants women by 25 runs in WPL 2024 (Source: X)
DC women were clinical yet again as they won the third consecutive game in the WPL 2024. The runner-ups of the WPL 2023 seem to be all set to make it to the playoffs for the second time in a row given the way they have been playing in the league till now. Batting and bowling have come together for them to win matches.
After losing a close last-ball thriller in the season opener against MI women, DC women have made a statement. They have beaten all the other teams in the league in a comprehensive way. The match against Gujarat Giants was not any different. They batted first and posted 163 runs on the board, thanks to a good knock from Meg Lanning.ย
The batting of Delhi Capitals revolved around their skipper who scored 55(41). While Meg was 28(29) at one stage, she got a move on after getting set. The likes of Alice Capsey, Shafali Verma, Annabel Sutherland, and Shikha Pandey added valuable runs at the other end. As a result, DC women were off to a par score. The batting of Gujarat Giants was way too poor while chasing the target.
Lack of intent costs Gujarat Giants the game
It has been a problem for a while now. No batter in Gujarat Giants seems to bat with any intent. There was only Ashleigh Gardner who scored 40(31). At the other end, all the batters defended a lot while chasing a target of over 160. Despite the presence of dew, the batters could not get a move on. DC women were excellent with the ball and gave little to no room for Gujarat Giants.
Radha Yadav and Jess Jonassen were the pick of the bowlers for DC women. The duo claimed three wickets each and were economical in their spell of four overs. It did not allow the batters to get even a bit closer to the eventual target. Gujarat Giants lost the game by 25 runs and need to win all their four games to think of making it to the playoffs.
