Delhi Capitals pacer Arundhati Reddy fined 10% of her match fee for breaking WPL code of conduct

The Womens Premier League(WPL) had started with a bang with two last over thrillers. The last two games however, were more or less one-sided victories by the teams. The Delhi Capitals-W and the UP Warriorz had a similar bout at the Chinnaswamy, where the Warriorz were put into bat and could only manage a 119 runs in their 20 overs. The Capitals were all over the Warriorz batters with only Shweta Sehrawat playing a decent knock in the middle. This was possibly the worst start you could have in the game of cricket.

The story of the Warriorz was same in the second innings. The partnership between Meg Lanning and Shafali Varma was enough to keep the game in the grasp. The capitals won by 9 wickets and made a solid comeback after the loss against the Mumbai Indians in their first fixture. This was a completely one-sided bout, where the Capitals were completely in control throughout the game with both bat and ball.

Problems arrive even after the victory

The Capitals might have had a great game, but there was still one mishap that has cost one of their players a lot. Capitals pacer Arundhati Reddy who herself bowled a brilliant spell in the game taking 1/16 in 3 overs  got into some trouble. Reddy was fined 10% of her match fee for breaking the WPL code of conduct during the game. Reddy was said to have used some words after dismissing lower order batter Poonam Khemnar that were inappropriate.

The officials took action since according to article 2.5 of the code of conduct it is a level 1 offence to use language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during a match. This was a big learning curve for the 26-year-old pacer and the team will want her to be careful going forward in the season. Reddy is one of their upcoming young pacers and they will not want her facing any more problems going forward.
