After an exhilarating start, the last two matches of WPL 2024 have been a one-sided affair. In the 5th match of the WPL 2024, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have rolled over the Gujarat Giants by 8 wickets with 45 balls remaining in front of a packed home crowd.

After a last-ball finish in their first match, it was a clinical performance by RCB with their bowlers setting up the match beautifully by restricting Gujarat Giants to 110 in their 20 overs. Sophie Molineux and Renuka Singh didn’t give the Gujarat batters anything to make merry on and bowled tight lines with exceptional support from the fielders.

Molineux picked up three wickets for 25 runs in her 4 overs, whereas Renuka Singh broke the back of the Gujarat batting line-up by picking up 2 important wickets from Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield. Dayalan Hemalatha was the only shining light in Gujarat’s batting line-up who scored 35 runs off just 25 balls.

Smriti Mandhana lit up Chinnaswamy with her strokeplay

In response to Gujarat’s target of 108 runs, Smriti Mandhana accelerated from the get-go and took on the Gujarat bowlers in the power play. He smashed 8 boundaries and 1 six in her innings of 43 runs in 27 deliveries.

Although Sophie Devine got out early Mandhana took the match far away from Gujarat in the power play only. After Mandhana got out, Sabbhineni Meghana (36*) and Ellyse Perry (23*) took RCB home in no time and got two crucial points in the bank.

After the victory, RCB has now moved on to the top of the points with 2 wins in 2 matches. On the other hand, Gujarat have lost their second consecutive match of the season and they are at the bottom of the points table with the worst run rate in the tournament.
