Pakistan and the Netherlands met in Hyderabad on Friday to officially kick off their start to the ODI World Cup 2023. Pakistan had made Hyderabad their home base ever since they landed in India. Babar Azam’s side had lost their preparatory game against New Zealand and Australia.

For the Pakistanis, the bowling was a worry as they had conceded over 340 runs in each of their Warm-Up games. For the Netherlands, this was an amazing chance to play yet another ODI World Cup tournament.

Mohammad Nawaz is the only player who has been to India before. The Pakistan all-rounder was part of the Pakistan squad that came to India for the 2016 T20 World Cup. Scott Edwards won the toss and put Pakistan into bat on what was a very humid day in Hyderabad

Mohammad Nawaz gets run-out after hilarious mix-up

Pakistan cricket team was looking at the experience of Mohammad Nawaz to get them close to 300. The Pakistani was run out for 39 thanks to a funny misunderstanding between Nawaz and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The incident happened in the 47th over with Shaheen Afridi facing Colin Ackermann. The left-arm pace bowler went for a reverse sweep only to miss the line of the ball. Nawaz went looking for a single only to be sent back as the bowler didn’t gather the ball. This gave Nawaz another chance to go for a single but a direct hit caught him short to run him out.

The Netherlands had Pakistan in early trouble at 38/3 by the end of the first power-play. Fakhar Zaman was out for 12, while Babar Azam was out for five. Imam Ul Haq was out for 15 as the top three folded to leave the Pakistan team and its fans tensed.

Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan then combined well to dig their team out of trouble. Both the batters scored 68 runs each to put an end to the early fall of the wicket. Mohammad Nawaz then combined well with Shadab Khan to add another substantial stand to help the team past 200.

Bas De Leede continued his good form with the ball to pick 4/62 from 9 overs. De Leede began with the wicket of Iftikhar Ahmed for 9 and followed it up with the wicket of Rizwan. Bought back into the attack De Leede got the wickets of Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali in successive balls. Pakistan was all out for 286 thanks to some late-order hitting by Haris Rauf.
