Match number 12 of the ODI World Cup 2023, saw India lock horns with their arch-rivals Pakistan. Against all the hype which were created surrounding this blockbuster clash, the match turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Indian team won the match by seven wickets. The magnitude of the win can be determined by the fact that India chased down the target with 117 deliveries left in the game. In addition, with this win the Indian team has now climbed to the top of the points table with three wins out of three matches and with a net run rate of +1.821.

Earlier in the game, India won the toss and opted to field against Pakistan. While openers cautiously faced Jasprit Bumrah, Imam-ul-Haq found success against Mohammad Siraj. However, Siraj bounced back, dismissing Abdullah Shafique. Hardik Pandya recovered after conceding boundaries, removing Imam-ul-Haq with a caught-behind delivery. India's seamers maintained a good length on a slowing pitch, gaining control in the early stages of the match.

Pakistan initially found stability through Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, reaching 150/2 after 29 overs. However, Babar's dismissal triggered a shocking collapse. Despite both batters crossing 50, the team crumbled to 191, losing the last eight wickets for just 36 runs. Kuldeep Yadav's crucial wickets, trapping Saud Shakeel and dismissing Iftikhar Ahmed, added to the collapse. Jasprit Bumrah's key scalp of Rizwan for 49 further fueled India's resurgence. In a rapid turn of events, India capitalized on Pakistan's downfall, securing victory in the 43rd over as the lower order succumbed to the pressure.

India chased down the total in the 31st over

The Indian opening pair started aggressively as both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill went after the bowling right from word go. The formidable Indian batting lineup faced little challenge in chasing down the 192-run target, and Captain Rohit Sharma's exceptional performance made the task even easier. Sharma's impeccable timing and skilful strokeplay countered the Pakistani pacers, with a notable highlight being a powerful pull shot off Haris Rauf that sailed over a deep backward square leg.

Despite Sharma's outstanding effort, he fell short of scoring another century in the ODI World Cup 2023, succumbing to a brilliant delivery from Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shreyas Iyer took his time to assess the pitch conditions and played a pivotal role at the No. 4 position, guiding himself to an encouraging unbeaten 53 runs. In the end, India secured a comfortable 7-wicket victory, propelling them to the top of the ODI World Cup 2023 standings.
