After successful events in the Asian Games 2022 and Commonwealth Games 2022, the International Olympic Committee is likely to admit cricket into the Los Angeles Olympics. In 2028, cricket might make a comeback in the biggest sporting event after 128 years. The sport was last played at the 1900 Paris Olympics.

On Friday, the IOC accepted the proposal to include T20 cricket in the biggest event. The decision was taken in Mumbai at an executive board meeting of the IOC. In the next move, the IOC will vote over the proposal on October 14–16. If the mandate comes in favour of the game, it will be included in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

Speaking about it IOC Chief Thomas Bach said that all five proposals for different games have been accepted, and the decision will be taken after voting. "These proposals have been accepted as a package by the IOC executive board, taking into consideration that these proposals and these sports are fully in line with the sports culture of our host in '28, with the American sports culture," Bach said. "All these proposals will now go to the IOC session here in Mumbai for a vote.

"These sports will showcase iconic American sports to the world while at the same time bringing international sports to the United States. The inclusion will, on the other hand, allow the Olympics to engage with new athletes and fan communities in the US and globally", he further added.

Six teams will participate in the proposed Cricket Olympics

According to the news reports, the Apex Cricket Council proposed to organise a six-team men's and women's tournament for the prestigious event. The top six T20I-ranked teams will make it to the Olympics and will play for gold. It's worth noting that even if cricket makes a comeback in 2028, the IOC will review its continuation for future events until it gains worldwide interest.

Meanwhile, it's worth noting that India is also looking to host the Olympics. The current government is reportedly working with the Sports Ministry to bid for the 2036 Olympics. The 2032 event will take place in Brisbane, Australia. If India manages to get the organisation of the biggest multi-sport event, it will surely enhance Cricket's chances in the event.
