Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc came back with a bang to reduce India to 2 runs for three wickets in their ODI World Cup 2023 encounter. The Indian batting top order was completely blown away while chasing 200 runs for a win.
India had bowled out Australia, thanks to the splendid efforts of the bowlers. The spinners in particular were the key players for Rohit Sharma during Australia’s batting. Steve Smith and David Warner were the only two batters who stood up to the Indian bowlers.
Earlier in the day, Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first. The Australians wanted to take advantage of better batting conditions but kept losing wickets. The wicket in Chennai became a hot topic for debate amongst the fans on social media.
Indian top-order blown away by Australian bowlers –
Chasing 200 to win, India lost its first wicket in the form of Ishan Kishan. The left-handed batter was out for a first-ball duck when he slashed at a wide delivery. Cameron Green took an easy catch off Mitchell Starc to give Australia its early breakthrough.
There was more drama in the 2nd over bowled by Josh Hazlewood when he first trapped Rohit Sharma LBW. The Indian skipper was out for a duck after facing six deliveries. This left the Indian fans totally stunned as there was a deafening silence on the ground.
Shreyas Iyer, batting at number four, was then out when he tried to clear the field. The 28-year-old played a loose shot which was caught by Warner to give Hazlewood his second wicket. This left India in complete shambles at 5 runs for the loss of three early wickets.
Australia were bundled out for just 199 after they won the toss and chose to bat. The decision seemed to have backfired when Australia lost five wickets for 30 runs on the board. Bumrah began the proceedings by dismissing Mitchell Marsh for a duck. Kuldeep Yadav then got the big scalp of Warner for 41.
Ravindra Jadeja then found form to get Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey. Glenn Maxwell lost his wicket to Kuldeep Yadav as Ashwin got the wicket of Green for 8. Mitchell Starc scored 28 crucial runs to help Australia reach 199 before they were bowled out in the 50th over.

Can not believe I woke up early to watch this absolute disgrace. Rohit should give the captaincy back to Kohli before the game even ends 🤢

Getting off to a unique start, I see! It's all part of India's tactical plan to keep the rivals guessing. Can't think of a better way to keep the suspense alive and make a comeback! Let's go #TeamIndia 💪🇮🇳 #WorldCup
