Team India had a terrific start to the ODI World Cup 2023 as they defeated five-time world champions Australia on October 8 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Notably, India's stalwart Virat Kohli built a great stand with KL Rahul, which gave the Men in Blue a terrific six-wicket win against the strong Australian side.

Meanwhile, the Indian fielding coach, T. Dilip, has praised star batter Shreyas Iyer for his great diving and fielding efforts during the play. However, Dilip has given the medal to Virat Kohli by affirming that he gets the award not only for the outstanding catch of Mitchell Marsh but for a great overall performance in the match against the Aussies.

"In today's game against Australia, Shreyas Iyer was excellent with his diving while fielding. But in our team, we always talk about consistency. It's not just about one catch; it's about overall performance and not only doing your job but also supporting and encouraging your teammates to perform better. So, I think this one goes to Virat Kohli," said T Dilip while presenting the medal.

Notably, India's skipper Rohit Sharma also admitted that he was quite nervous when they were reduced to 2/3. The top-order batter says that the team aims to score a plethora of runs in the powerplay owing to the narrow target. Moreover, the 36-year-old skipper heaps praise on Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for their great partnership in this critical situation. The stylish right-handed batsman accepted that Chennai would never disappoint them at all.

"I was (nervous), you don't want to start your innings like that, when you have that kind of target you want to score as much as possible in the powerplay, but credit to Virat and KL on how they went about the chase. Chennai never disappoints, they love their cricket and for them to sit in that heat and come out and cheer for the team says a lot," Rohit Sharma said.
