India vs Australia

India started the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign on a good note with a win over Australia. A collective effort from the Indian bowlers and the duo of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli meant that India overcame the challenge of the Australian team. On a difficult surface to play, under tough circumstances, in humid conditions, India managed to claim a crucial win against a strong Australian team.

Opting to bat first, Australia managed to score only 199 runs. Although the wicket in Chennai was not the easiest to bat on, Australia ended up with a below-par total. Indian bowlers bowled well in tandem and did not give easy runs to the Australian batters. Rather, the Indian bowlers attacked the Australian batters and chipped in with crucial wickets every now and then.

Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers, who was not just economical but took wickets as well, Jadeja dismissed Steve Smith with a peach and then got rid of Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the dangerous batters like David Warner and Glenn Maxwell. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj were fantastic with the new ball.

India edged past Australia despite the early batting collapse

No batter from Australia stayed longer in the middle. Indian bowlers were collectively good and restricted Australia to just 199 runs. Chasing the target, India saw an early collapse. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were on fire straightaway. Starc dismissed Ishan Kishan in the first over. Hazlewood dismissed the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer in the second over of the match.

Australia almost had Virat Kohli. But the dropped catch from Mitchell Marsh meant that he continued and framed a big partnership for the fourth wicket along with KL Rahul. In tough conditions, the duo batted India out of trouble and took their team home. Though Virat could not quite finish the match, Rahul stayed till the end and ensured that India crossed the line. The Australian team would be ruing the dropped catch for their loss.
