The beginning of the Pakistan cricket team's tour of Australia was less than favourable, and the situation has deteriorated further with the ACC imposing a fine and penalty on Shan Masood's men after the first Test in Perth. The team incurred a 360-run loss in the Test, and due to a slow over rate, the entire team has been fined 10 per cent of their match fees and has incurred a two-point deduction in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
The penalty was imposed by Javagal Srinath from the Emirates ACC Elite Panel of Match Referees after Pakistan fell short of the target by two overs, considering time allowances. As per Article 2.22 of the ACC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, pertaining to minimum over-rate offences, players face a fine of five per cent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the designated time.
Furthermore, following Article 16.11.2 of the Apex Cricket Body World Test Championship playing conditions, a team incurs a one-point penalty for each over they fall short. As a result, two World Test Championship points have been subtracted from Pakistan's total points.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood admitted to the offence and agreed to the suggested penalty, eliminating the necessity for a formal hearing. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Joel Wilson and Richard Illingworth, along with third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire Donovan Koch.
