It's a new year and a new day at Brisbane as the Brisbane Heat (HEA) and Sydney Sixers (SIX) will go head to head at the Gabba on the 1st of January at the start of 2024 in the 13th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). Both these teams will be competing at one of the iconic grounds that have given us some incredible matches. This is known as the Gabbatoire where there is more success than failure in Australian Cricket. It will be a great battle where the Heat will continue their winning streak at their home ground with their 8th win in a row and the Sixers who are one of the most popular teams with 3 titles to their name will look to break this streak and show why they are one of the most feared teams.
The Brisbane Heat are currently on the top of the table with 4 wins out of 5 and 1 washout and no team has yet broken their undefeated streak in this tournament. The squad that is now led by T20 legend Colin Munro are still looking good and currently the best team in the league so far and will look to keep it that way. They will surely see to it that they finally win their much-awaited second title which they had won 6 seasons to go. They still have some competition, but with the way they are going, there is no doubt they can easily fix their spot in the playoffs.
The Sydney Sixers have also had a great season so far with 3 wins out of their 5 games with one loss and one no result. The last two encounters might have not gone to plan for one of the most decorated franchises in the BBL, but we have learned never to underestimate this side in the past as they are full of surprises. The loss against the Melbourne Stars and the washed-out game against the Sydney Thunder might have given them a bit of a hiccup, but they will surely look to come back strong.

HEA vs SIX- Likely Pitch Conditions
We have seen the unpredictability of the Gabba in the past, due to its two-paced nature which supports both the batters and the bowlers. Pacers were getting some great bounce in the first innings and spinners were getting some turn due to the sandy nature of the pitch, but under lights, we have seen the pitch get a bit better for the batters. Overall it might be a better choice for the team to bowl first on this pitch and let the bowlers use these conditions and comeback chase down a gettable target. However, the Gabba can still surprise you when you least expect it and it will be interesting to see which team will counter it first.
