Sumit Nagal praised Virat Kohli and his foundation for helping him in difficult times. The Indian Tennis star recently made headlines after beating Alexander Bublik in the first round of the Australian Open 2024 in the men's singles category. In the process, Nagal became the first Indian player since Ramesh Krishnan in 1989 to beat a seeded player in a men's singles Grand Slam match.
Nagal was brilliant in the match. The 26-year-old overcame the Kazak player in straight sets. In the first 2 sets, the Indian player dominantly overcame Bublik. The third set was a roller coaster of a ride and had both the players competing well. In the end, the set went to the tiebreaker. The world number 137 managed to clinch the match by winning the tiebreaker.
After the match, wishes poured in for the Haryana based athlete. Later after interacting with some of the reporters, Nagal recalled about his tough times. Nagal remembered how he was nearly bankrupt and had nothing to survive. In the process, Nagal thanked Virat Kohli and his foundation for helping him out in the difficult situations in the earlier part of his career.

'If I didn’t have Virat Kohli supporting me, I don’t know what I would have done' - Sumit Nagal

"I speak to Virat Kohli once in a while. I was also a part of the Virat Kohli Foundation. His foundation has helped me, I would like to thank him for all the support in those years," said Nagal. He further revealed that Virat's foundation has been helping him since 2017. Nagal felt grateful for Virat and added that he does not know what would have happened to him without Virat's support.

"If I didn’t have Virat Kohli supporting me, I don’t know what I would have done," added Nagal. The talented player urged all the sponsors to look forward for the players in the country. The Indian Tennis player concluded saying that sport would grow more with the help of sponsors. If people fund athletes, it will only help the sport flourish in the country. I am fortunate to get that support from Virat," concluded Nagal.
