The world of cricket, especially in India, is steeped in history and legends. One such legend is Sachin Tendulkar, whose iconic stature in the sport needs no introduction. On the eve of the highly anticipated 2023 World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka, a magnificent life-size statue of the cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar was unveiled at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium. This awe-inspiring statue stands as a testament to Tendulkar's immense contribution to Indian cricket and was installed by the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Tendulkar, a true icon of the sport, holds a remarkable record of being the leading run-scorer in international cricket. With an astonishing 34,357 runs in 644 matches, including an incredible 100 centuries, he has left an indelible mark on the game. To pay an ode to the little man's greatness the Maharashtra Cricket Association unveiled a statue of him at the ground where he has spent his childhood honing his skills.

But when fans had a closer look at the statue, they noticed an uncanny similarity of the statue with Steve Smith who is an Australian modern great. Many fans went on to say that the facial appearance of the statue had more similarity to Steve Smith than Sachin Tendulkar.

A stunning and gleaming bronze statue of Sachin Tendulkar was revealed by Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, on a Wednesday. The renowned sculptor Pramod Kamble, hailing from Ahmednagar, crafted this massive sculpture, towering at an impressive height of 14 feet.

Statue got the nod of Sachin

The statue initially was to be unveiled in February by the Maharashtra Cricket Association as a heartfelt tribute to honour Sachin Tendulkar for his 50th birthday, which was on April 24 this year.

Sachin Tendulkar himself gave his seal of approval to the selected pose for the statue, which was chosen after going through hundreds of action photographs featuring the cricket legend. Ultimately, the iconic pose selected was one where he's seen executing a magnificent lofted drive for a six, with his left leg fully extended, torso slightly inclined, head held high, and the cricket bat pointing towards the sky.

Despite the Master Baster penning down an emotional note on “X” formerly known as Twitter after the statue was revealed fans weren’t quite bemused by the resemblance of the statue with Steve Smith and took it to “X” where all kinds of reactions were seen by fans, while some made jokes and other expressed their frustration.
