Liam Livingstone has rejected former ODI World Cup Winning English Captain Eoin Morgan’s claim of disharmony among the English team. The flamboyant England all-rounder said that the team has a huge amount of respect in the team but there’s no truth in his claims that he believes that the lads in the group have had a great time despite a dreadful World Cup so far.
He further stated that a team’s unity is not only tested when they are playing well but also when things are not going well and that’s when a team’s true character is reflected. He knows that things have not been the way they would have wanted but everyone’s trying their best to make a comeback.
Livingstone said, “With all respect to Morgs, everybody loves him in the dressing room, but that’s completely not true,” Livingstone said. “The one thing about unity is you probably get tested more when things don’t go well. It’s easy to say the dressing room is amazing when things are going well.”
He added, “From what I’m seeing, everybody’s working their nuts off trying as hard as we can to turn it around. Things haven’t gone our way and we haven’t played as well as we want, pretty much all of us at the same time, but there’s certainly no rifts in the camp.”
“Whether you are playing or not there is a role to do,” he said. “I turn up to play for England and it is probably the best time of our lives, we’re pretty proud to be able to do this.
“We turn up, do as we’re told and the confidence part of it comes from winning games. I think once we start winning games again we’ll see that. We’ve just had a loss of confidence at the wrong time.”
All is not lost for England
England has played far below the expectations of everyone so far in the World Cup as they have lost 5 out of the 6 matches that they have played so far. England’s dismal performance has not only made their semi-final chances extraordinarily remote but has also put their Champions Trophy qualification in jeopardy.
England who just got to know about their Champions Trophy qualification in their last match against India despite the decision being made by the Governing Council two years ago, have now a lot to play for in their last two matches and Livingstone is vary of this fact.
Livingstone said, “It gives us something to play for over the next three games,” Livingstone said. “Everybody’s trying their best to turn this around. We’re still trying to play our aggressive cricket and have as much fun as we can, and ultimately it is not coming off for us at the minute. We keep losing wickets in clumps, which kills you in any format of cricket. Losing doesn’t breed confidence and we’re all just lacking a bit of confidence at the moment.”
