After suffering a humiliating defeat in the first test in Centurion, India bounced back emphatically in Cape Town by winning the second Test against South Africa by 7 wickets! This nail-biting match brought the two-match series to a draw, with each team claiming one Test.

Earlier, it looked like South Africa might run away with the game thanks to Aiden Markram's fiery century (106 off 103 balls). But just when they were hoping for a big total, India's fast bowlers, led by the magnificent Jasprit Bumrah (6 wickets), ripped through the Proteas batting, sending them packing for a mere 176 runs.

With a small target of 79 runs to chase, India went straight for the jugular. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a solid opening stand of 44 before Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli fell cheaply. But fear not, Shreyas Iyer smashed the winning shot, a glorious six over the infield, securing victory in just 12 overs.

This incredible win was a fantastic comeback in the second test for India after losing the first Test by an innings. It proves their fighting spirit and hunger for victory. Markram might have shone for South Africa, but in the end, India's team effort, especially Bumrah's bowling and fearless chase, brought them glory.

India tops the WTC table post Cape Town victory

India's remarkable resurgence in Cape Town has not only revived their hopes but also put them at the top of the points table in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023-25. The cornerstone of India's success in Cape Town was the dynamic duo of pacers - Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah.

Siraj's first-innings havoc and Bumrah's brilliance in the second dismantled South Africa's batting and gave India an edge over South Africa despite their poor show with the bat in the first innings.

The roller-coaster ride in the WTC points table saw India initially slipping to the sixth spot after the Centurion defeat. However, the spirited performance in Cape Town catapulted them back to the numero uno position. However, the standings of the points could change after the completion of the ongoing test match between Australia and Pakistan in Sydney.
