South Africa vs India Day 1 1st Test

The first Test Day 1 between South Africa and India has concluded at Supersport Park in Centurion. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first on the Centurion's green  Rohit Sharma during the toss said Ravichandran Ashwin was playing instead of Ravindra Jadeja, who had back spasms ahead of the game. The hosts did not play any mainstream spinner in the side in the green top wicket.

Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jensen started strongly on a green, but Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma were cautious with their strokes. The openers failed to have an impact and they were back in the pavilion early. Rabada dismissed India's captain for the 13th time in international cricket, as the 36-year-old batsman was caught in the deep fine leg area while pulling a short ball.

India were in trouble as Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were also dismissed in quick succession, they were 24/3 at one stage and from there, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer then put on a 68-run stand for the fourth wicket. But both batters failed to make their start counts and were back in the pavilion after scoring 38 and 31 runs respectively.

Kagiso Rabada shines for the hosts

Rabada was lethal with his spell as the bowler picked up his 14th 5-wicket haul and first against India in Test cricket. He also reached the milestone of picking 500 wickets in international cricket and became the 7th South African to achieve the feat.

KL Rahul is not out on 70 runs and he made sure the Men in Blue goes past the 200 run mark in a difficult wicket of Centurion, he has been standing alone at one end and playing his natural game. He again showed why he has been one of the finest middle-order batters for India. As others struggled he played his knock and made a brilliant comeback to the test side as well. The match was called off early due to bad light and India were 208/8. With Rahul in the crease, the team would be eyeing a 250-run mark on Day 2.
