The Pakistan cricket team suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 23 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Notably, Babar Azam and Co. have suffered back-to-back three losses in the ongoing marquee event despite a stellar start to their campaign. Following the loss, a plethora of former cricketers and experts have been slamming the Men in Green for their poor performance against the mediocre Afghan side.

Former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram is one of them. The former right-arm pacer felt embarrassed for their crushing loss against  Afghanistan by a large margin. In addition, the 57-year-old cricketer lashed out at them for not undergoing the fitness test for the past two years. The well-renowned cricket commentator feels they should at least have a fitness test, as they consume around 8 kg of meat a day.

"It was embarrassing today. To reach 280-odd losing just two wickets is pretty big. Wet pitch or no, look at the fielding, the fitness levels. We've been screaming for the last 3 weeks that these players haven't undergone a fitness test in the last two years. If I start taking individual names, their faces will drop. Looks like these guys are eating 8 kilos of mutton every day. Should there not be tests," Wasim Akram said.

Fielding is all about fitness and that's where Pakistan are lacking: Wasim Akram

The legendary pacer feels Pakistan's side is lacking in fitness, and this is the reason they are not a good side at fielding. Moreover, the Lahore-born cricketer says that now Babar Azam and Co. will have to depend on each team losing and winning to make the spot in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.

"Professionally you guys are getting paid, playing for your country. Fielding is all about fitness and that's where we are lacking. Now we have reached that same position, where we will pray for ifs and buts to happen," he added further.
