India registered an emphatic victory of 160 runs over the Netherlands in the last league match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on the auspicious day of Diwali and made the day even more special for all Indian cricket fans. India has been flawless in the round-robin stage and almost rolled over every team they met in the league stage. 

After a jittery start in the first match against Australia where India lost their first 3 wickets on just 2 runs chasing 200, India didn’t look troubled in any other match. Captain Rohit Sharma who is probably playing in his last ODI World has been a tactical masterclass in the tournament and has used his resources quite well.

But more than Rohit Sharma the captain, Rohit Sharma the batter has led from the front and set a selfless example for the team on how he wants the guys to play for the ultimate glory which is the World Cup and not their milestones. We all know as someone who is known to hit 200s for fun and had a set pattern to his batting where he used to play cautiously initially. 

But in this World Cup, he has come out with a different intent where he’s not concerned about his milestones and has been playing aggressively from the get-go and getting India to flying starts in most of the league matches. 

Rohit Sharma has amassed 503 runs in this World Cup with a strike rate of 121.49. When the captain is leading from the front and setting an example with his selfless approach, it sends down a message to the entire team which is reflected in their performance.

Pakistan legends heaps praises of Rohit Sharma

Even Pakistan’s legends praised Rohit Sharma for his aggressive batting in this World Cup. In a sports show on ‘A Sports’ Pakistan’s former captains and star players Wasim Akram and Shoaib Malik heaps praises for the Indian captain.

Wasim Akram said on the show that there are some great in modern cricket right now whether it is Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Babar Azam, or Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma when in full flow stands apart from them and looks effortless irrespective of the bowling attack.

He said, “The way Rohit Sharma is playing there's no other batter in the world. We talk about Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Babar Azam but Rohit Shamra is different. He makes batting look so easy no matter what the opposition or bowling attack,”.

Shoaib Malik seconded Wasim Akram’s analysis of Rohit Sharma’s class. He dissected Rohit Sharma’s aggressive approach and said that he doesn’t need to pick bowlers to hit them and can take on any bowler. He praised Rohit Sharma by saying, “He's the kind of batter who will hit all five opposition bowlers. The batters that Wasim Akram named, they target 3-4 bowlers but Rohit goes after all five”.
