Babar Azam and his Pakistan team ended their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with a loss to England in Kolkata. Ahead of the game on Saturday, Pakistan needed to bat first to try and win the game by a massive margin to reach the semi-finals. Jos Buttler though won the toss and batted first to put an end to Pakistani hopes.
After the early exit from the ODI World Cup 2023, massive questions are being asked about the Pakistani team. One man who is under immense pressure is none other than Babar Azam the skipper of the side.
Former Pakistan skipper and chief of the board, Ramiz Raja has made a massive statement on the Babar Azam’s future. The focus will be on the Pakistani board on what their next course of action is set to be.
Ramiz Raja has his say on Babar Azam’s captaincy –
Former Pakistani skipper Ramiz Raja is in India to do commentary duties in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The former PCB chief while speaking to the media said “Pakistani players have felt the reaction from back home. PCB and journalists played an important role but the majority played a negative role. It is difficult to cope in the social media era”
Ramiz Raja also went on to say how few journalists are targeting certain players based on the place they come from. “Some journalists on the agenda attack players on a city basis which has damaged Pakistan Cricket a lot. We are living with a tribal mindset,”
Babar Azam found good support from Ramiz Raja who threw his weight behind the 29-year-old. “Babar is a mature captain with a good temperament who handles his anger very well. Pakistan Cricket Team is losing and people passing comments is unbearable. If I was in place of Babar, I would’ve given harsh answers in a press conference. I think as a critic we need to introspect”
While speaking about the state of affairs in Pakistan cricket, Ramiz Raja said that there was no system in place like India or Australia. “Pakistan Cricket has no system like India or Australia who have a great backup talent. We are bound to utilise the current bunch of players carefully. There is no need for drastic changes. Pakistan Cricket needs time to move forward. I felt bad after talking to him”
Finally speaking about Babar Azam’s future as the skipper Ramiz Raja said the conversation was private. What was spoken between the two players was never going to make it to the public domain.
