The ninth match of the ODI World Cup 2023 saw India taking on Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The clash began with Afghanistan skipper Hashmatulllah Shahidi winning the toss and electing to bat first on a pitch that had assistance for the batting. Both the Afghanistan openers looked comfortable in the middle with the ball doing very little off the pitch.
However, the incident which caught the eyes of fans were the dismissal of Rahmanullah Gurbaz who was caught brilliantly on fine leg by Shardul Thakur. On his birthday, Hardik Pandya delivered a short ball to Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz when Afghanistan was at a steady 63/1. Responding almost instinctively, Gurbaz pulled the ball, sending it toward the deep fine leg where Thakur was stationed near the boundary rope.
The star all-rounder managed to catch the ball but, in the process of falling beyond the boundary, he released it into the air. Swiftly, Thakur re-entered the field of play and caught the ball again, completing the catch. The on-field umpire referred the decision to the third umpire for verification. The replay confirmed the catch was entirely legal, leading to Gurbaz being declared out and leaving Afghanistan at 63/2. This wicket was necessary as the duo have been in lethal form lately and could have been devastating if they had settled down.

Bumrah was also seen celebrating like Marcus Rashford
After winning the toss the Afghanistan team were having a got start and looked formidable in their approach. As Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran looked to be in the flow it was important to get any of their wickets. However, the party was quickly spoiled by ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
After taking Zadran's wicket at 22 runs in the seventh over, Bumrah marked the moment with a distinctive celebration. Mimicking the celebration style of Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford, the 29-year-old pointed to his head, and this image has been widely shared on various social media platforms.
