A fervent crowd packed the Narendra Modi Stadium, their hearts filled with hope and anticipation as they watched the host nation, India, seek to break their decade-long drought of major Apex Governing Council trophy wins. However, their dreams were dashed by a formidable Australian side.

Australia's bowling attack tightened the grip on the match after a thrilling powerplay, restricting India to a mere 240 runs. Travis Head emerged as the hero with the bat, crafting a magnificent century to secure Australia's sixth Cricket World Cup title.

This victory marks a crowning achievement for Pat Cummins' team, adding to their triumphs in the World Test Championship final and the Ashes, solidifying their dominance across all formats.

Pat Cummins, the captain, was understandably ecstatic after the triumph. In his post-match statement, he acknowledged that they saved their best for last, with key players stepping up when it mattered the most.

Cummins reflected on the significance of the win, stating, "This year will be remembered for a long, long time, and we had a lot of success over the winter, and this one peaks it all. At the top of the mountain."

The Aussies embarked on a celebratory cruise along the Sabarmati River, led by their captain Pat Cummins. The iconic image of Cummins holding the World Cup trophy perfectly captured their victory, blending the enormity of Australia’s success with the tranquil beauty of the riverside.

Is this the start of Australia’s another peak?

Australia used to rule the Cricketing world in the late 90s and early 2000s and within this period they won three World Cups and dominated the Test rankings. But after that, a period came where Australia was not that invincible side and looked like that could be beaten.

South Africa winning the Test series in Australia in 2012 and India winning two consecutive test series in India in 2019 and 2021 along with the sandpaper gate was a period where Australia looked like a side that can be beaten.

But 2023 has been a year that has proved to be a game-changing year for them where they retained the Ashes for 8 years now, won the World Test Championship, and now the ODI World Cup for the 6th time.

This year has again put Australia in that dominating light in World Cricket. But with their side aging and many of these players in the twilight of their careers, it would be interesting to see whether they can carry on to be the dominating force like were in the previous era.
