Australia defeated India in a one-sided final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Kangaroos created history as they won a record sixth title in the tournament. The domination of Australia has been unprecedented. On the other hand, India lost the final of the tournament despite dominating it till the semifinal. For the performance of both teams, they will be rewarded with cash prizes.
The apex board has allotted a total prize money of INR 83 crores for the teams that have reached the semifinal stage of the tournament. Australia who was the winner of the final of the tournament, got a prize money of INR 33 crores. India, the runner-up of the tournament, gets a cash prize of INR 16 crores. These are huge amounts, the highest for teams provided in a cricket tournament.
Even the semifinalists like New Zealand and South Africa are rewarded for their performance. Both the teams get INR 6.5 crores each for reaching the knockout stage of the tournament. Interestingly, there will be cash rewards for the teams that reached the group stage of the tournament as well. The apex board decided to provide them cash prizes for reaching the tournament following a tough qualification stage.
Cash prize for teams finishing in group stage
The remaining teams that played in the group stage of the tournament got a cash prize of about INR 83 lakhs each. Though the amount is not as huge as the ones for reaching the semifinal, it is still a good amount, considering that they took part in the tournament. Six teams get a cash prize of INR 83 lakhs for their participation in the tournament.
The likes of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, England, Netherlands, and Bangladesh win a cash prize of INR 83 lakhs each. The curtains for the biggest cricket tournament are down, as Australia put up a fabulous performance in the final to beat India in their backyard. With the win, Australia recorded their sixth title win in the history of the ODI World Cup.
