Indian pace bowler Mohammed Siraj was on fire yet again as he came up against his favourite opponent Sri Lanka in Mumbai on Thursday. The last time Siraj bowled against Sri Lanka was during the Asia Cup 2023 final where he picked 6/21.

The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was the host as India took on Sri Lanka in the 33rd game of the ODI World Cup 2023. Team India needed a win to go top of the table and also qualify for the Semi-Finals. Sri Lanka on the other hand needed a win to stay alive in the tournament.

Kusal Mendis won the toss and chose to bowl first as he made one change to his side. Dushan Hemantha came into the side to replace Dhananjaya De Silva. India went into the game with the same side that won against England in Lucknow on Sunday.

Mohammed Siraj leaves Kusal Mendis speechless

Chasing 358 to win, the Sri Lankans were rocked yet again when Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj showed their class with the new ball. 29-year-old Mohammed Siraj sealed the deal for India early in the Sri Lankan chase.

Kusal Mendis the Sri Lanka skipper was facing Siraj in the first ball of the 4th over. The Indian bowler got the ball in the right channel as the ball seamed away. Kusal Mendis had no answer as the ball hit the top of the off-stump to get the bails flying.

India and Mohammed Siraj were overjoyed as they had got the big fish of Kusal Mendis for just 1 run. The Sri Lankan innings was in complete tatters when they were reduced to just 3 runs for 4 wickets in the 4th over.

Jasprit Bumrah began the damage in the very first ball of the Sri Lankan chase. The Indian pacer got the wicket of Pathum Nissanka out LBW. The Batter went up for a review but the call stayed with the umpire.

Dimuth Karunaratne was the next to go this time to Siraj when he was out given out LBW first ball. The veteran batter also took the DRS but this time the ball was hitting the stumps on the full. Sadeera Samarawickrama guided a rising ball from Siraj straight into the hands of Shreyas Iyer for a duck.

Rohit Sharma then introduced Mohammed Shami into the attack and it did not take the 33-year-old to show his good form. Charith Asalanka spooned a simple catch to Ravindra Jadeja at point for 1. The very next ball Dushan Hemantha was out caught by KL Rahul for yet another duck to reduce the visitors to 14/6.
