Marnus Labuschagne ridiculed the development by calling it ‘garbage’ when he was asked about the inclusion of the word ‘Bazball’ in the dictionary by a journalist during a media interaction.
Recently the Collins dictionary included the word ‘Bazball’ in the dictionary with the definition “a style of Test cricket in which the batting side plays in a highly aggressive manner”. The term Bazball was coined when former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum became the coach of the England team in the captaincy of Ben Stokes and under their management the England team adopted the aggressive approach of playing Test Cricket.
The aggressive approach of the England team under McCullum was termed as ‘Bazball’ since McCullum’s nickname is ‘Baz’. Since McCullum took the position of Coach of the England team they haven’t lost a test series. After the success of the English team, the term ‘Bazball’ spread like fire in the cricketing circle and now it has been included in the Collins Dictionary.
When asked about this development Marnus Labuschagne at first looked perplexed as he didn’t know anything about it but when he was explained about the development by the journalist he sarcastically mocked it by calling it ‘Garbage’. He said, “Oh man, that is garbage. I don't know what that is. Honestly, I have no idea what you're talking about,”
It could set up the Ashes Rivalry
The England team takes pride in their Test Cricket and although they have been dismal in their performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 this statement from an Aussie could rile up the whole team and unite them to put up a good show against their arch-rival Australia on the 4th November at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Australia is placed well at 4th position in the points table and eyeing a spot in the semi-finals of the World Cup, whereas England is right at the bottom of the table after losing 5 of the 6 matches they have played so far in the tournament.
