In the 9th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma led India to beat Afghanistan by 8 wickets. After a magnificent bowling performance from pacer Jasprit Bumrah Rohit, he smacked a magnificent century to steal the show. In his record-breaking innings, Rohit crushed the history books.

Earlier, Afghanistan skipper Hasnatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first. His decision didn't go well with the team, as Indian bowlers clinched three wickets in the first 15 overs. However, after these setbacks, skipper Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai added 121 runs for the fourth wicket.

Shahidi, in his innings, scored 80 runs off 88 balls with the help of eight fours and a six. Meanwhile, Omarzai scored 62 runs off 69 balls with the help of two fours and four sixes. In the end, Indian bowlers made a comeback and restricted Afghanistan to a competitive total of 272/8. India pacer Jasprit Bumrah clinched four wickets, while Hardik Pandya got two.

Rohit Sharma outplayed the Afghanistani bowling attack

In the end, Virat Kohli smacked another unbeaten half-century and finished the game for India. Kohli, along with Shreyas Iyer, added an unbeaten 68 runs for the third wicket. Kohli, in his inning, scored an unbeaten 55 runs off 56 balls with the help of six boundaries. Meanwhile, for Afghanistan, both wickets were taken by Rashid Khan. It's worth noting that in their next encounter, India will face archrival Pakistan at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.
