One of the greatest idols of India cricket Sachin Tendulkar has expressed glowing admiration for India captain Rohit Sharma, who steered his team to a decisive victory in the second match of the World Cup 2023. The game unfolded at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, where India achieved their second consecutive triumph in the tournament. Sharma, the seasoned opening batsman, showcased his exceptional batting skills by notching a century, leading India to an impressive eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in the 9th match of the ODI World Cup.

Rohit's dazzling century, his 31st in ODIs, not only secured the win but also established a new World Cup centuries record, surpassing the one held by the legendary Master-Blaster himself. Rohit Sharma's remarkable seventh World Cup century stands as a testament to his batting excellence.

The legendary batter also took to the Twitter to congratulate the India captain and then went to express his admiration on the fine performance. “Two fine performances by Bumrah and Rohit, who were well supported by the bowling and batting units respectively. The 2 games have seen different players contributing and that sets things up nicely for the 14th of October. Look forward!" the 50-year-old wrote on Twitter.

India thrash Afghanistan by eight wickets

Prior to Rohit Sharma's spectacular batting display, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah made substantial breakthroughs in the Afghanistan batting lineup, claiming four crucial wickets and preventing Hashmatullah Shahidi's team from posting a formidable total. Bumrah's outstanding performance in this match marked his personal best figures in the ODI World Cup, concluding with an impressive 4 for 39.

In pursuit of a target of 273 for victory, the 'Hitman' went on a six-hitting spree, smashing a blistering 131 off just 84 deliveries. This innings not only secured the victory but also established the Indian captain as the player with the most centuries in the history of World Cup tournaments. Alongside him, young talent Ishan Kishan (47), Indian captain Virat Kohli (55*), and Shreyas Iyer (25*) played pivotal roles, contributing significantly to the successful run chase.
