With just under three weeks left for the IPL 2024 season to begin, Sunrisers Hyderabad have replaced Aiden Markram as the captain of the side.
Australia's Test and ODI skipper Pat Cummins has been named as captain. The 30-year-old has already led Australia to the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup title last year.
Dale Steyn is set to miss IPL 2024 after reportedly communicating his plans with the SRH management. The 40-year-old South African pace legend will be back with the men in orange for the IPL 2025 edition.

Pat Cummins to lead an IPL team for the first time
After leading his national side for more than a year, the three-time World Cup winner will lead an IPL team for the first time. Overall, the New South Welshman has never led a team in domestic cricket. He replaced Markram, who won two titles for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 2023 and 2024. His IPL captaincy though wasn’t really up to the mark in the 2023 edition.

Sunrisers Hyderabad haven’t made it past the group stages and have had three terrible seasons. The IPL 2023 season SRH finished last in the table with 8 points from 14 games despite having an exciting side.
With the captaincy change in the team, SRH, and its fans will hope to conquer the title once again and add on to their 2016 title.
It is to be seen what happens next as far as the management decisions in SRH. The first game of the season for Hyderabad is against Kolkata Knight Riders. It will be an exciting battle as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins will be playing against each other. For the unversed, Mitchell Starc is the costliest player in the history of IPL.
