Cricket fans have got intriguing news on Saturday morning that Gautam Gambhir will quit politics. The former World Cup winner has decided to leave the political life just ahead of the Indian General Elections in a few months.

Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter and put out the news for the world to know. Once the tweet was made several fans were left wondering the reason behind this move.

Fans were wondering if the reason behind this was the BJP denying Gambhir a ticket or if there was a rift within the party ranks. All the rumours were laid to rest by the cricketer himself with a single tweet on Saturday.

Gautam Gambhir reveals the reason behind his move –

After his retirement in 2018, BJP decided to offer a ticket to former India star Gautam Gambhir. The former opener accepted the ticket and won the elections to become an MP.

With the 2024 elections around the corner, Gautam Gambhir has decided to quit politics. The reason behind this move is that Gautam Gambhir wants to concentrate on his cricketing career.

Gautam Gambhir is back in Eden Gardens and is set to be part of the KKR outfit. For seven years, Gambhir was the skipper of the Kolkata unit. Under his leadership, KKR won two IPL titles and was a major force to be reckoned with.

Once the former skipper left the team, it became inconsistent and hasn’t won a title. The last time KKR came close to an IPL title was in 2021 when they reached the finals under Eoin Morgan.

This year KKR has made a lot of investment with the biggest being Mitchell Starc. The Australian seamer is set to take part in the IPL for the first time in 8 years. His earlier two seasons were with the RCB unit under Virat Kohli in 2014 and 2015.

Fans will hope Gautam Gambhir and Shreyas Iyer can form a formidable partnership with Chandrakant Pandit. If KKR happens to win the title this year, it will be their first triumph in a decade.
