Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir requests to be relieved of Political duties

There have been a lot of cricketers who have gone on to try their hands in politics. Players like Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Kaif and Kirti Azad are some players to remember. This is normally a way where they want to try out something new after a nice and long career. For some, it might be a successful venture while for others it might not. There have been several cricketers who have entered this world of campaigning and voting. One of them has recently been Gautam Gambhir.

Gautam Gambhir had already made a name for himself, being one of the best top-order batters for India in his time. He is generally known for his knocks in the 2007 T20 World Cup final and the 2011 World Cup final. With a lot of success in the game already, the former cricketer joined the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and entered the world as well. Gambhir managed to be one of the popular figures in the East Delhi constituency, where he also assumed office as a Member of Parliament.

Gambhir asks to be relieved from duties

Recently the former India opener posted on X wanting to be relieved from political duties stating, “I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble HM Amit Shah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!”. This means that we might see Gambhir back to his game roots once again.

It is said that Gambhir will be seen as a mentor to the Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) in the upcoming Indian Premier League(IPL) season. It seems like Gambhir wants to be a part of the cricketing scene this season. We might see him also coach in the future as well. Gambhir is an iconic figure in the cricketing world for his past performances and it won’t be surprising if we see him as a cricket administrator as well.
