Generally, Mumbai Indians are known for winning IPL trophies for fun as the IPL behemoth has won the coveted trophy 5 times between 2013 and 2020 but in the last 3 years they have not won the trophy and the team composition of Mumbai hasn’t looked that strong as it used to be till 2020.

That’s why they were in the news in recent times when they just managed to pull off an all-cash trade deal with Gujarat Titans to get their premier all-rounder Hardik Pandya back at INR 15.5 crores and an additional undisclosed transfer fee.  Amid all the drama and confusion of the Hardik Pandya trade deal, MI released 11 players including Jofra Archer, and traded Australian star all-rounder Cameron Green in all-cash with RCB for 17.5 crores.

Now Mumbai Indians have got their core of players sorted with Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya but they still need some key players in the upcoming auction to make a strong playing XI.  Mumbai Indians have a purse remaining of 15.25 crores and they will look to pick among the following players in the auction to be held in Dubai on December 19th:

1. Gerald Coetzee

MI’s current bowling attack is spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and they will need another pacer to complement him. With not many Indian options available, MI might go with an overseas pacer, and given their purse, Gerald Coetzee is one pacer for whom MI could go.

In the recently concluded ODI World Cup, Coetzee has been very impressive on batting-friendly Indian pitches and could be a really good pick alongside Bumrah.

2. Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga is currently the 2nd ranked T20I bowler in ICC rankings and will be an ideal fit in the Mumbai squad given the dearth of quality spinners in their squad. Hasaranga is a clever spinner who can deceive the batters with his subtle variations and his batting abilities are also a plus for any good team.

3. Shahrukh Khan

Given the firepower MI has in their top and middle order with the likes of Rohit, Surya, and Pandya, getting an Indian hard-hitter who can finish matches in their playing XI with complete Mumbai’s batting line-up.

An Indian batter who can finish matches is not a common sight and if MI manages to get the young lad from Tamil Nadu will bolster their batting line-up.

4. Kartik Tyagi

MI is known for nurturing future stars and they could do that once again by including the young Indian pacer Kartik Tyagi in their squad. Tyagi has shown glimpses that he can be the next big thing in India and has recently gained pace in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

This young bloke can throw some punches with the bat too and could prove to be the next big thing in Indian cricket if groomed well enough.

5. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel, despite clinching the Purple Cap in IPL 2021, faced disappointment in IPL 2023, leading to his release from RCB. MI might consider pursuing him, given his potential as a valuable option for death bowling.
