Finally, after a prolonged wait, the day arrived when the five Women's Premier League franchises competed to secure some of the top-performing female cricketers in world cricket. It was a similar story for the young talent Vrinda Dinesh, who struck gold in the players' auction for the Women's Premier League 2024.

 UP Warriors enlisted her in their team for a hefty price of Rs 1.3 crore. Despite her base price being only Rs 10 lakh, she fetched 13 times more in the auction. She even history by becoming the most expensive uncapped player when UP Warriorz secured her services for a record bid of Rs 1.3 crore.

Initially, both Gujarat and RCB expressed interest in having Vrinda on their teams, but ultimately, UP secured her signature by offering more than Rs 1 crore. Vrinda became the first Indian to be sold for more than Rs 1 crore this season.

Who exactly is Vrinda Dinesh?

Vrinda Dinesh has showcased impressive batting skills for Karnataka in the last two seasons, displaying a knack for hitting big shots and consistently playing substantial innings. The 22-year-old batsman is on the verge of earning a spot in Team India. Recently, she featured in the India A women's team during a three-match series against England A.

Vrinda first gained attention at the ACC Emerging Teams Cup in Hong Kong, contributing to India's victory after being called in as a replacement for the injured bowler S Yashasree in the final. Despite the team posting a modest 127 runs, they secured a win on Bangladesh's slow pitch, and Vrinda's inclusion was due to the delayed arrival of Muskaan Malik's kit.

The 22-year-old idolises Meg Lanning and during the off-season, has been part of tests for all five WPL franchises. In the recent senior women's ODI competition for Karnataka, she delivered an outstanding performance earlier this year. Finishing as the third-highest run-scorer with 477 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 47.70, she trailed behind Jasia Akhtar and Priya Punia. Notably, she played a remarkable inning of 81 runs in the semi-final against Rajasthan.
