As the time of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women's Premier League (WPL 2024) get closer, it is currently the time for all exciting player auctions. However, the TATA IPL Mini auction is scheduled to take place on December 19 but on December 9 it is time for TATA WPL Auctions. There was a lot of buzz around this edition of the auction in WPL as all the teams have pretty much all their bases covered but this auction will be a place to strengthen their squad further.

The auction of WPL 2024, saw a record-making bid with Delhi Capitals (DC) securing the services of Australia all-rounder Annabel Sutherlands by outbidding Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League 2024 auction held in Mumbai. To fend off strong competition from MI, DC spent Rs 2 crore to acquire the all-rounder. She marked the first player that they secured in the auction and also became the second-most expensive Australian player ever auctioned in the WPL.

Having delivered an outstanding performance in the Women's Big Bash League with the Melbourne Stars, Sutherland is on a high. The 22-year-old notched up an impressive tally of 23 wickets and accumulated 288 runs. Additionally, the all-rounder bowled 117 dot balls during the tournament.

Sutherland has been in prime form lately

The young cricketer has already made significant advancements at both the domestic and international levels. With her right-hand batting and right-arm medium-fast bowling skills, the 22-year-old has proven to be exceptional on the field. She initiated her domestic career by making her debut for Melbourne Renegades in the WBBL at the age of 15 in 2016. Furthermore, she made history by becoming the youngest player to participate in the WBBL.

Thanks to her remarkable displays in domestic cricket, she received the international call-up in January 2020, finding a place in Australia's squads for the 2020 Australia Women's Tri-Nation Series and the 2020 Women's T20 World Cup. Making her international debut in a Women's T20I against England during the tri-series in February 2020, the 22-year-old has since represented the national team in both ODIs and Tests. Her international statistics are impressive, boasting a highest score of 109* in WODIs and 137* in Tests.
