Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan dropped from annual contracts

The Indian Cricket Board seems to have been taking action against most of the players. The board has given the players an ultimatum to play domestic cricket while they are not representing the national team. This has been followed by Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Mayank Agarwal. While Rahane has been struggling, both Pujara and Agarwal have been giving great performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

The players who have ignored these orders completely are Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. These two were built up to be the next big players in international cricket. Iyer and Kishan had given great performances in white ball cricket and were even part of the last ODI world Cup. However, both these batters have been out of the game for some time. They were advised from the board and the board officials to play domestic cricket and have not featured in the Ranji Trophy for their respective states at all.

Contracts in trouble

Due to this ignorance both Ishan Kishan who preferred to train for IPL and Iyer who wanted a break has led to problems. The Board has completely dropped them from the annual contract stating “ Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations. The Board has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team."

This has finally ended in with both these upcoming talents putting their career in danger. This is a sad state of affairs that we have witnessed due to some ignorant behaviour. Both Iyer and Kishan were set to be the future of Indian cricket, but have just wasted their opportunities. We hope these two can make a come back into the side in the future, but right now things are not looking good for the two players. Iyer will be back as skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Kishan will represent the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. This will be their opportunity to come into the limelight once again after these terrible circumstances.
