The 3rd T20I in the India vs Afghanistan T20I series at the M. Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru was one of the best games you will ever see in the shortest format. This was the first double super over ever, which the cricketing world experienced in International cricket. India after a poor start of 22-4 in the 5th over came back in the match brilliantly with a great 190-run partnership between skipper Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh. While Rohit completed his 5th century in T20I’s, Rinku ended up unbeaten on 69 runs, taking the hosts to a big total of 212 in the end. The Afghans tried their best to get over the line with great knocks from Gulbadin Naib, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mohammad Nabi, but their chances were foiled again with a brilliant 2nd super over by Ravi Bishnoi.
Though there will be all praise for Rohit Sharma’s century, the one player whose contribution we should not forget is Rinku Singh. His 69 off just 39 deliveries at a strike rate of 176.92 which included 2 fours and 6 sixes came at a crucial time when the team was struggling to lose 4 wickets in the powerplay. Rinku has brought his great form straight out of the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2023 into his T20I career scoring 356 runs from his 15 matches at an average of 89 and a strike rate of over 170.
Rohit hinting Rinku’s selection
Rohit was no doubt the man of the match in the last game for his incredible knock of 121 from 69 balls. He was also talking about the partnership with Rinku in the middle saying that they were looking to not lose intent in the game even after the match and spoke about his calm approach and how he knows his strength. Rohit also gave a potential hint on the selection of Rinku Singh saying “It augurs well for the team moving forward, wanted someone like that at the backend.” This states that Rohit is bringing up the importance of a player like that who can play the crucial innings at the end.
The performance of Rinku Singh speaks for itself and the attacking nature of his game will always be a blessing to the team. The ability he possesses to hit the big hits on both sides of the grounds at the back end and his aggressive style of play will always come in handy in this format. To go with all this, he is also an incredible outfielder with a lot of energy, making him one of the future impact players that every team is always looking for to fit in their squad.
