The T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America is set to take place in June. The fans are excited to see what the final Indian squad will look like in the future with the number of talented players on the bench and in the ranks. The return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has made the people curious. The arrival of Shivam Dube and Yashasavi Jaiswal has got the fans excited about the upcoming tournament. The men in blue will also have something to prove after the last two additions who have been slightly disappointing for them. They are looking to come back stronger in this edition.

While the pace attack with the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan still looks promising, there is one more player who has surprisingly not yet made a return in the game. It is none other than Mohammed Shami. The Arjuna award winner also played his last T20I in the last edition of the T20 World Cup two years back. Shami achieved a lot and is one of the most renowned bowlers in the Indian team with over 400+ wickets in international cricket. He is already one of the first-choice bowlers in the Tests and ODIs and it will be interesting to see if he makes a return in the T20 format as well.

Shami on T20 World Cup aspirations

While Shami is one of the first picks of the Indian team in the longer formats, his performances in T20I’s are slightly underwhelming to his standards with just 24 wickets from 23 matches with a high economy rate of 8.94. However, he has still done well in the Indian Premier League(IPL) and has great numbers in the T20 format as well with 190 wickets from his 156 T20 matches. The star pacer also has a lot to say on his selection on News 24 stating “There's still a lot of time. There's an IPL before that. Whoever is playing well should be picked for the T20 World Cup.” To support his statement he also confidently said that if he plays well in the IPL he will surely be selected.

It will be no surprise if Shami makes the cut looking at his performance in the last season. Although he is still recovering from injury which will still put a lot of pressure on him. It will be interesting to see what the selectors have in mind regarding this talented pacer who has given great performances in both domestic and international cricket. It will still be great to see Shami perform in another World Cup and expect him to give another impressive performance for his country.
