The new year for Indian cricket started with great performances after the heartbreaking World Cup final loss last year. India after the 2023 World Cup have managed to win a T20I series against Australia 4-1 at home getting their redemption after the loss in the final. The South Africa series was also successful where India drew the Test and T20I series and won the ODI series against the Proteas in the Rainbow nation. This is followed by a clean sweep victory in the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan as well.
This is a huge example of why the Indian side is recognised as one of the best in the world right now. The amount of talent and skill in their ranks is phenomenal with the likes of Yashasavi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma giving some great performances with the bat and Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi bowling some great spells in the middle. The men in blue have certainly been a force to be reckoned with in this modern era and will want to continue these great performances.
The 17 days where history has been created
The year 2024 has straight away been a memorable year for the side where they were part of the two most historic matches in cricket history. India was part of the shortest Test match in cricket history where they beat South Africa before the closing of day 2 in Cape Town. The South Africans were all out for a total of just 55 runs and the Indians could manage to reply with just 153. The second day ended with another South Africa collapse which saw them getting bowled out for 176 and giving a target of just 79 runs that was chased down easily by the visitors. This was also India’s first victory at the Newlands which also helped them draw the series.
The recently concluded T20I series vs Afghanistan also saw the fans witness another great game at the Chinnaswamy in Bangalore. Both the sides ended on 212 where Rohit Sharma and Rinku singh were the stars for the Men in blue and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib were the stars for the Afghans. The game ended with not just one, but two super overs, where Afghanistan managed to give India a target of 17 runs which the Indians drew again and the Indians in reply gave a target of 12 runs in the 2nd super over. The Afghanistan dream did not come true thanks to a great over from Ravi Bishnoi. Overall these were one of the most historic moments for Indian cricket.
