India has recently concluded a well-fought T20I series by 1-1 by winning in the 3rd T20I by 106 runs which is to be followed by a three-match ODI series and then the big two test matches. The India team is giving chances to the younger members in the white-ball format as the next T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the US is just months away, their experienced players are set to return in the Test matches starting from 26th December.
The hot debate which is doing the rounds in Indian cricket is the availability of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in T20 cricket especially the World Cup. Some are of the view that the T20 baton should now be passed on to the youngsters completely, while some still think that Virat and Rohit still has the capability in them to play in the T20 World Cup.
The bone of contention is that, if Rohit and Virat have not played in the T20I series against South Africa and they are only left with 3 T20Is against Afghanistan at home before the World. Their participation in the series is still not certain and if that’s so, then how will the combination of the team will get settled if they won’t even play.
I think both Virat and Rohit should be there in World Cup: Harbhajan Singh
India's veteran off-spinner Harbhajan has some other views about the participation of Virat and Rohit in the T20 World Cup. He thinks that Virat and Rohit can still play ahead of the youngsters in the World Cup and believes that there should be a mix of seniors and youngsters for India in the World Cup.
Speaking to ANI, Harbhajan Singh said, “I think both Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma) should be there in the World Cup...I think a good combination would be possible only when you have good senior players too with the youth. Virat and Rohit have a lot of mettle in them...I think they should play.”
He further added, “This is a young team; I think we should give them some time. We are very result-oriented, and our team is good only if they give results. That is not the case. I think that if we give them time, they will learn. We will have to change ourselves a little as we judge teams on results too quickly. Results take time. This team is in the process. South Africa is not an easy place to play, especially for bowlers.”
