Fans on social media were surprised to see Virat Kohli eat a chicken tikka in the flight. This came as a surprise to most as the India star batter had previously turned vegetarian due to health reasons. People failed to realise, what looked like a full fledged non-vegetarian meal is actually a vegetarian main course. The meal was described as a mock chicken tikka, which actually is a plant based version of the dish which is made out of soya.

The bigger question remained as to what made the former India captain turn a vegetarian in the first place as he used to be a big fan of Chole Bature and Butter chicken at one point of time. We all know that kohli is currently one of the fittest cricketers in the world and still shows great energy and athleticism at the age of 35. It is safe to say that whatever he is doing is working on his favour. This caused alot of confusion among fans who didn't think there might be vegetarian version of a popular non-vegetarian dish.

Kohli's reason for turning vegetarian

The reason for changing his diet and food habits were revealed in an instagram live session back in 2020 where he said, “Left eating meat just before the England Test series. In 2018, when we went to South Africa, I had a cervical spine issue while playing a test match. It compressed a nerve that was running straight to the little finger of my right hand. It gave me a tingling sensation and I could barely feel my little finger. I could not sleep at night and it was hurting like mad."

He further stated, “Then I got my tests done and my stomach was too acidic and my body was too acidic, creating too much uric acid. Even though I was taking calcium and magnesium, everything but one tablet was not sufficient for my body to function properly. So, my stomach started pulling calcium from my bones and my bones got weaker. That is why I stopped eating meat completely in the middle of my England tour to cut down the uric acid and I have never felt better in my life, to be honest.”

The post might have made a lot of heads turn, but it is confirmed that Virat Kohli is still living a very healthy and disciplined lifestyle. This not only shows the dedication of Kohli to his fitness, but also his funny side as he fooled fans into thinking that he has changed his diet plans once again.
