India and South Africa are competing against each other in a riveting encounter at St George’s Park, in Gqeberhsa. The first match at Kingsmead in Durban got washed out without even a ball being bowled. Both are strong teams in this format and this series is a really good platform for both teams to find the perfect playing combination before the marquee T20 World Cup which will take place in June 2024 in the West Indies and United States.

India got off to a shaky start as they lost both their openers by the second over of the first innings. Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav then stitched a sensible partnership with a mixture of aggression before Rinku Singh unleashed himself on the big stage by playing a sensational innings of 68 runs off just 39 deliveries hitting 9 boundaries and two gigantic sixes, one of which broke the media room’s glass.

Suryakumar also scored a handy knock of 56 runs in 36 balls taking India to a decent total of 180 runs in 19.3 balls before rain interrupted and cut short the innings by 3 balls.

South Africa made easy work of the run chase

South Africa’s innings was cut short because of rain interruption and they needed 152 runs in 15 overs according to the DLS method. South African openers got off to a blistering start as they made 42 runs in just 2.5 overs before a mix-up between the wickets led to the downfall of Breetzke.

India bowlers were looking out of sorts and Markram and Hendricks took full toll of it. The wicket which was holding a bit in the first innings got better after shower interruption and there was a lot of dew on the ground which made it even more difficult for Indian bowlers. In the end, South Africa won the match comfortably by 5 wickets with 7 balls left. The Indian fans were dejected after the loss and the poor show caused a meltdown on social media.
