New Update
Hardik Pandya

It's quite likely that India's skipper for Twenty20 internationals, Hardik Pandya, would captain the team versus Afghanistan during the three-match series played at home starting next month, having recovered from an ankle injury sustained during the 2023 ODI World Cup. During the ODI World Cup 2023, Pandya suffered a heel injury versus Bangladesh and was forced to withdraw halfway through the competition.

Following that, Pandya was unable to go with India to South Africa for their T20I series against Australia. The all-rounder from India, who was selected to succeed Rohit Sharma as captain, will be able to guide the Mumbai Indians during the Indian Premier League, according to the report.

A person acquainted with the sportsman has been quoted by TOI. According to earlier speculations, Hardik may miss the IPL 2024 as well as the T20I series versus Afghanistan. However, new reports have emerged that Hardik Pandya might be seen in January itself. He stated, “He has completely recovered from his ankle injury. He has been training every day.”

If Hardik is not available for the series, Rohit Sharma might be named captain of the Indian team once more. Many believed that not selecting Rohit Sharma after the ODI World Cup 2023 was unjust and inappropriate.

Having won five titles, Rohit is among the most prolific captains in IPL history. He was named Mumbai Indian's captain in 2013, and during the following 11 seasons, he guided the team to five championships. If Hardik is still deemed unfit, it is unclear if Rohit will agree to lead the squad for the Afghanistan series.

“He is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) only” : Jay Shah

Pandya's comeback against Afghanistan was mentioned by Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah during the Women's Premier League auction. This information was vital for the fans to get know more about the status of the all-rounder

He said, “We are monitoring it (Pandya’s fitness) on a day-to-day basis. He is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) only. He is working very hard and we will let you know in due course the moment he is fit. He could be fit before the Afghanistan series also.”
