The list of players backing out from the India team has been growing which can be considered as a setback by the team. This could cause a lot of imbalance in the side with the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is about to begin in the next season. Along with Ishan Kishan and Mohammed Shami already missing, there is another star player who will also be absent from Cricket for sometime. Surya Kumar yadav will also miss out in the upcoming series against Afghanistan at home. This is a big blow since he was not only one of their best T20 players right now, but also a potential leader. This will force the management to make some unwanted changes in the tournament.

The 33 year old batter from Mumbai has been having a great run in T20’s so far with 2141 runs from his 60 T20I’s at an average of over 45. In fact he is also close to 7000 runs in his T20 career and has also scored 5 T20 centuries. After showcasing brilliant performances, it will be tough to see Surya out of T20 action. This will also make the management’s job tougher where they have to look for the best replacement for a player of his calibre. This is an unfortunate chain of events that has commenced at the wrong time.

Surya's reasons for absence

During the 3rd T20I against South Africa, Surya was lifted off the field after he hurt his ankle while fielding. This also led to Ravindra Jadeja leading the side in his absence. The nature of his injury was also given to the Indian Cricket board releasing a statement saying, “Surya has reported to NCA for rehab work and the Medical Science team as of now has ruled him injured. He won't be able to play against Afghanistan which starts in three weeks time. Since, he is unlikely to be selected for Tests, he will possibly play for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy in February to check his fitness before playing in the IPL". This gives all the fans a scare that Surya might not be in the Indian Premier league as well.

Even though the series against Afghanistan might not be a big series for India, it would have still be given to Surya a few more games for the upcoming T20 World Cup and he would still be in rhythm. Everyone will hope that this star will rise to the occasion and make a great recovery. Surya is one of the key players for India and his availability for the IPL and World Cup makes a huge difference.
