The India squad is ready to take on Afghanistan in the upcoming 3-match T20I series which will start on the 11th of January in Mohali. The squad looks complete with a perfect mix of experienced and youngsters in the squad. There has been a lot of talk regarding the squad and which players have been included and which have not. The people who are not included in the squad are a bit of a shock. The likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan missed out despite giving some great performances in the last few games they played. However, this still seems like a great side to go head to head against Afghanistan who will have their own set of T20 legends of their own.

The biggest talking point, however, is the return of the two India stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The Cricket fans were hyped for their return to T20I, but some experts did not completely agree with this statement. There have also been some ex-cricketers who want the two to feature in the series and still be in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. There is no doubt that both Virat and Rohit are one of the best Indian batters right now and they will still be tough on anyone who will bowl to them, but there are still speculations on whether this will affect the youngsters who look equally promising to play the World Cup as well.

Deep Dasgupta’s opinion

Former India cricketer turned commentator also gave his opinion on this matter as well on Star Sports saying “I was slightly surprised because I thought the team had moved on from Rohit and Kohli”. Following this statement, he also made points on how the return of these two batters will affect the balance of the team going forward. The former keeper also brought up that he sees no direction and that including them in T20I is them going back to square one rather than looking forward to the future.

Deep also explained how the likes of Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma will miss out in the long run as well saying “Hardik, Jadeja Bumrah, and Siraj will be back, but the middle-order will remain the same. Kohli will play at No. 3, Surya at 4, Hardik at 5, Jitesh or Samson at 6, then Jadeja and the rest follow”. Supporting this statement he said that there will not be any middle-order batter to finish the innings and the team will be full of top-order batters once again which will cause the same problems as they had in the previous T20 World Cup.
