India lost the Centurion Test on the third day by an innings and 32 runs. Barring Virat Kohli, other batters did not show enough application on a wicket that was doing a lot. On the third day, SA continued to dominate the game with the bat. Dean Elgar, who was brilliant with the bat on the second day continued his brilliance and ended up scoring 185 runs.

The marathon knock of Elgar already ensured India was out of the game. An additional damage was done by Marco Jansen, who scored 84 runs in 147 balls. The knock of the two batters ensured that South Africa got a huge lead of 163 runs in the first innings. On a wicket that was doing a lot, the lead was not just handy, but huge.

India had a huge challenge against them to stay alive in the match. But given the way they batted in the first innings and the way the home side bowled, it was a tough ask. The wicket started to deteriorate further with the progression of the game. The batters from India found it extremely difficult to even stay in the middle. There was no application at all.

Bowlers help South Africa to claim an innings win

After getting a huge lead in the first innings, the South African bowlers were all over the Indian batters. Kagiso Rabada and Nandre Burger were all over the Indian batters till the end of the tea session. While Rabada dismissed Rohit Sharma, Burger dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal. Likewise, Jansen got rid of Shubman Gill. Indian batters showed no promise of extending the match to the fourth day.

Only one batter tried his best to help India to extend the game further. Virat Kohli applied himself and showed why he is one of the best batters against seam bowling. The star batter played exquisite drives and impressed the fans. There was not enough support from the other end, which did not help his cause. In the end, India ended up losing by a huge margin.
