The Boxing Day Test has begun at the Super Sports park in Centurion where India are taking on South Africa. This is a much-awaited series, where every Indian fan will be hoping that India can win a series at the Proteas home turf. This has been the only upsetting record for them as they have failed to win a test series in the Rainbow Nation since 1992. In fact, India have only won 4 Test matches in South Africa out of 12 and have only drawn one series. With the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back and some young talent in the side, there are high hopes for the team.
However, everyone will keep their eye on one player and he is none other than Virat Kohli. The achievements of Kohli throughout his career are difficult to count as he has broken a lot of long-standing records as well. He has already etched his name as one of the greatest cricketers in the world with over 25000 international runs and 79 international centuries. It seems like the king breaks records for fun and he is set to break more in the future.
Chance to Surpass the Legends
Virat has scored 1236 runs in his 14 test matches in South Africa making him the highest run scorer among active Indian cricketers and 4 highest Indian run-scorer in South Africa behind two biggest Indian Test legends Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who have scored 1252 runs in 21 matches and 1306 runs in 15 matches respectively. Kohli is just 16 runs behind Dravid and 70 runs behind Sehwag to become the second-highest run-getter for an Indian in South Africa just behind Sachin Tendulkar with 1741 runs in 25 matches.
This will be a great achievement for the great Indian stalwart as he is also in peak form after the 2023 World Cup. This will be just another record for Kohli if he achieves it and will just show how his career has panned out. Kohli will also play a big role in India’s attempt to win their first Test series in South Africa as well. Kohli has had a great journey from being a young star and now being compared with one of the best players in the world and is still looking really busy and hungry for runs in his career.
