The second Day of the first Test of the series between India and SA saw an early end. The match was suspended and the stumps was declared soon after the tea break due to bad light. Before it could happen, the home side had the firm advantage in the match, thanks to their performance with both bat and ball. India looked nowhere close to troubling the home side.

When KL Rahul was batting well in the middle, SA still looked calm. It was probably the only phase where India enjoyed some momentum in the day. After starting the day with a score of 208/8, Rahul continued from where he left. The star batter was at his best and helped India to post 245 runs on the board. He added 31 runs for himself on the day.

In the process, Rahul registered his 8th Test hundred, his 7th away from home. It was his 2nd hundred at Centurion in 2 Tests. India had a decent score on the board and hoped to get SA to a low score in the first innings. The initial step for the same was good as Mohammad Siraj was able to get the wicket of Aiden Markram early.

Dean Elgar's counter attack the highlight of the day

What followed it was a nightmarish bowling from the Indian unit. Barring the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, other bowlers lacked control and leaked a lot of runs. There was lack of discipline from the likes of Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur. It helped SA to dominate India in the match and surge ahead without making more efforts to score runs.

But the day certainly belomged to Dean Elgar, who did not just score runs but scored them at a fantastic rate. The experienced batter did not let the bolwers settle to their lengths and consistently attacked them. In his stay in the middle so far, the Southpaw has scored 140 runs in 211 deliveries which includes a whopping 23 boundaries. India would be hoping for a better day.
