Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell finds himself in the hot water with Cricket Australia. The 35-year-old was taken to hospital after an issue related to alcohol. It is said that Glenn Maxwell will be spoken to by the Cricket Australia committee.
The incident happened after Melbourne Stars finished their Big Bash League Commitments. Glenn Maxwell then went to see Brett Lee and his band perform in Adelaide. The 35-year-old star was also part of a golf event earlier the same day.
Australian Cricket Body has also named its squad for the ODI Series against West Indies. This is the first ODI series the Australians will play after their successful 2023 ODI World Cup triumph. Glenn Maxwell has been rested for the series with Steve Smith set to captain the side.
Cricket Australia statement on Glenn Maxwell’s incident –
Glenn Maxwell had to be hospitalized for a brief period owing to an issue with Alcohol. Cricket Australia was quick to launch an investigation and also released a statement about the same.
The statement read “Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information”. As per reports the decision to omit Glenn Maxwell from the ODI squad isn’t related to the incident in question.
It is believed that Glenn Maxwell will be back in the team for the T20I series against West Indies. The 35-year-old will be a huge player for the Australians during the T20 World Cup to be held in June this year.
“It is not related to him being replaced in the ODI squad, a decision that was made following the BBL and based on his management plan. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20 series. No further comment will be made at this time” The statement also read.
Steve Smith will captain the ODI squad versus West Indies with Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins given a break. Jhye Richardson was in the running to be selected for the series. The young bowler suffered yet another injury and this has given Xavier Bartlett a chance to play for his national side.
Fans are particularly excited to see 21-year-old Jake Fraser McGurk in action. The right-handed batter smashed the fastest List-A century from just 29 balls while playing for South Australia.
