The Big Bash League(BBL) season 13 has almost ended with the playoffs going on where the Top 4 will be competing for the trophy. There have been teams who have been impressive and teams that have not lived up to the expectations. One of the teams who have failed to make it to the top 4 once again is the Melbourne Stars. They finished the tournament with 8 points on the board and finished 6th on the table with only 8 points on the board. This is also their 4th consecutive season where they failed to make it to the playoffs. This is certainly the worst run in the BBL for the 3-time finalists.
One of the big and key players for the Stars is none other than the big show Glenn Maxwell, who has impressive numbers for both international and franchise cricket. The ability and skill of Maxwell are very rare for any player in the T20 game, where he covers all the bases in the game. In his 416 T20 games, he has scored more than 9000 runs and taken 150+ wickets as well. Along with this, he is also a livewire in the field making him an impactful player for any side. With all this success there is no doubt that he was more than capable of leading the Melbourne Stars as well.
Glenn Maxwell steps down as skipper of Melbourne Stars
One of the shocking news regarding Maxwell just came as he stepped down as the Stars captain after a disappointing season. This is a sad turn of events as Maxwell was still leading his team from the front by scoring runs and taking wickets when required. It might be one of the toughest decisions which he had to make as well. At Least the fans will be happy that he will continue playing for the side and still dream of that first BBL title which has eluded the team for years.
There is no doubt that Maxwell's stepping down as skipper came as a shock to everyone who has been a big fan of the stars. However, er he will continue to be part of the team and still be a key member of the squad. It will be interesting to see who will take the reins from the explosive all-rounder for the next season. We will also hope that this leads to a positive impact on the team as well. We all want to see Maxwell and the stars win the BBL title and get back to their after these four disappointing seasons.
