Afghanistan head coach admits to being unaware of Super Over rules

Afghanistan's head coach admits to not being aware of the rules of the double super over in the 3rd T20I. Still happy with the team's performance despite the loss and does not want the rules to be the topic of conversation.

The double super over in the 3rd T20I was one of the greatest T20I matches that was witnessed at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This was something that the crowd had never witnessed internationally at all. The two super overs were bowled in a T20I game. These were scenes which witnessed a lot of drama and nail-biting moments from players and spectators. The match had some great moments right from Rohit Sharma’s century to Ravi Bishnoi's brilliant 2nd super over that won the game for the Men in Blue and had achieved another clean sweep against Afghanistan.

Along with the excitement there have also been some moments that created unnecessary drama as well, which spread a war of words among the players and the officials. The deflection of Mohammad Nabi that got Afghanistan to 3 more runs and helped them post a very big task for the Indians to chase and Rohit Sharma retiring before completing the first super over which led to a lot of commotion in the middle. These moments really caused a lot of confusion about the rules which were set for the scenario.

Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott also had his doubts on the rules of the game which nobody in the Afghan team could understand. The former England cricketer was asked about Rohit retiring out controversy which the Afghans could not understand, where he mentioned that he had no idea about the rules which were set for the scenario and also further added that the new rules and new guidelines were never understood. These were the words stated by the coach in the post match press conference.

Trott further brought up the issue about the rules saying “It was not communicated. We wanted Azmat to bowl the second over again, but Fareed  bowled a great over. But these things will be explained and done in writing in the future.” In the end he said that his team had a good game and the rules should not be the talking point in the end. This explains that The Afghanistan team did not have enough idea about the rules, but it was still good to hear some positive remarks made by the coach despite the heartbreaking loss.
