India’s bench strength is so strong that selectors usually have a headache trying to pick the right squad for mega tournaments. One prime example would be the Indian second-string team playing the ODI series against South Africa. While the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team have departed for Australia, the Shikhar Dhawan-led team is playing an ODI series against Proteas.

Salman Butt, the former Pakistan cricketer, said that it was a good headache for India. During a YouTube interaction with fans, Butt said that even flop movies in India do well because of the population. The selectors had dither in finding the right combination for the tournament in Australia.

Many felt Sanju Samson should have been a part of the squad but the player was roped in for the ODI series against South Africa instead. Such has been the result of playing domestic leagues in India. The Indian T20 League alone accounts for producing a few stellar players.

India is one of the biggest economies: Butt

Highlighting the fact that India is one of the biggest economies, Butt said that any country would love to have such a bench strength.

“Apparently, there are more benefits to it. India is one of the biggest economies, it's one of the biggest markets. Aapke consumers sabse zyada hote hain toh anything sells. Sab cheezein theek-thaak bik jaati hai. Aap dekhe na, flop movies me bhi kisi ko nuksaan nahi hota India me, kyunki itni dafa dekhe jaate hain, itne numbers hain logon ke (If you have more consumers, anything sells. Even flop movies in India work well because there are so many people),” Butt was quoted as saying in a YouTube interaction.

“Practically speaking, it's an asset. Agar aapko confusion ho rahi hai selection me, it's a good headache. Aapki 3 teams hain, ek Test khel rahi hoti hai, ek T20 ya ODI khel rahi hoti hai aur ‘A’ team bhi khel rahi hoti hai. Ye ek blessing hai. (If you are having confusion in your selection, it's a good headache. You have 3 teams, one is playing Test, other ODIs/T20Is, and then you have the ‘A’ team playing as well. This is a blessing),” he added further.
