In an exhilarating opening match of Season 2 in the Women's Premier League, the Mumbai Indians Women exhibited their batting prowess through a sensational run chase against Delhi. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, the team secured a remarkable 4-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals, marking a terrific commencement to the new season.

In the opening encounter, Mumbai Indians Women, led by their skipper, won the toss and opted to field against Delhi Capitals Women. Delhi's innings witnessed a blend of dynamic performances and strategic gameplay. They culminated in a total of 171 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allocated 20 overs.

The early dismissal of Shafali Verma for just one run posed an initial setback, but Skipper Meg Lanning's brisk 31-run knock set the tone. Alice Capsey emerged as the standout performer, stabilising the inning with an impactful 75 runs off 55 deliveries.

Jemimah Rodrigues contributed a rapid 42 runs at an impressive strike rate of 175.00, bolstering the middle order. Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland's valuable contributions added crucial runs. The Mumbai Indians women's bowling attack, led by Shabnim Ismail, secured breakthroughs. However, the Delhi Capitals women concluded their innings with a challenging target of 172 runs for the Mumbai Indians women.

Facing a challenging target of 172 runs, the Mumbai Indians women encountered an early setback with the dismissal of Hayley Matthews. However, the team showcased resilience, led by Yastika Bhatia, who played a remarkable innings, amassing 57 runs at an impressive strike rate of 126.67. The partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt and  Harmanpreet Kaur proved pivotal, contributing 19 and 55 runs, respectively, to fortify the run chase.

Despite intermittent wicket losses, Amelia Kerr's impactful 24 runs added crucial momentum. The combined efforts of Pooja Vastrakar and Amanjot Kaur navigated the innings to a nail-biting climax. Amanjot Kaur's unbeaten 3 runs and S Sajana's six off the final ball secured a thrilling victory for the Mumbai Indians women in a closely contested match, highlighting their determination and collective effort in achieving the challenging target. On Saturday, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women will take on UP Warriorz.
